Fukui Roundtable Day 2

Sunday, I spent the morning sharing teacher practice at the Fukui Roundtable and the afternoon traveling to Kyoto.

From the breakfast room at my hotel I was able to watch school students (in uniforms, this time on a Sunday!) retrieving their bicycles from a big bicycle garage.

Then I took the train to Fukui University for our roundtable discussion.  I presented about work the fifth grade teachers and I have done around building a growth mindset in math class for students.

Kohei, who is a university student in Japan, presented about what his teacher training has looked like as he prepares to get licensed as a teacher.

Then Yudi, who is a Chemistry teacher in Bhutan, presented about the differences between the education system and culture in Bhutan and in Japan and told us about what he has learned in Japan that he would like to put in place in his school in Bhutan.

Pauline, an education researcher in Japan who is originally from the Philippines, gave us all some background about how math is usually taught in Japan and about some of the educational practices that are being used in Fukui that inspired Yudi.
Radi, an English teacher from Cambodia gave us all good feedback on our presentations and helped us to understand what teaching looks like in Cambodia as well.  It was a very interesting group from all over Asia (and the United States).
